Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice
Throughout my career, I have focused on creating inclusive, accessible environments within the scientific community, recognizing that science is stronger when it reflects the diversity of the people it serves. My work has centered on amplifying underrepresented voices and ensuring that all individuals have the support and resources they need to succeed. In my role with the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB), I have contributed to initiatives that make grant and award applications more equitable and promote inclusive, accessible meetings. At Friday Harbor Laboratories, I worked to establish community standards for anti-racist practices and helped secure funding to support diverse seminar speakers, ensuring a broader range of perspectives in marine biology. At the University of Florida, I have mentored students in navigating the challenges posed by recent policy changes, while continuing to prioritize DEI-driven outreach beyond campus. I also actively engage in science education and outreach through mentorship programs, community science initiatives, and volunteer work, aiming to make science more accessible to all. Moving forward, I remain committed to supporting inclusive mentorship, promoting accessible science, and working to ensure that diverse voices and perspectives are central to scientific progress.
